The REAL Reason Gaming Isn’t Fun Anymore

Most people aren’t talking about the REAL reason that gaming is no longer as fun. I don’t think many people are considering just how good we had it. Year after year getting insanely fun release after insanely fun release. New gameplay mechanics never before seen, EVERY YEAR! When you’re seeing something new every year, there inevitably will come a time where there is no longer something new to see. That’s where we are now. We’ve seen 1,000 Skyrims and 400 Battle Royale type games, but when we look back on when Skyrim and Battle Royale’s were new, of course they feel more nostalgic! When Fortnite and Warzonze and Apex legends were fun, they were new!! They’re not anymore yet that’s all we’re getting nowadays! This is the ACTUAL reason gaming isn’t fun anymore…

  1. Real life graphics? I have yet to see a game that has them.

  2. The problem with graphics, it could either be real life, or have a godly art style

  3. Every single game that releases now is trying to have a 10 year lifespan so they can have one release and then milk billions out of it with minimal input afterwards. What that results in is 99% of games sucking ass then dying in a month and literally NOTHING coming out for a decade.

  4. Games started sucking by about 2010 in my opinion, I'd say it started declining after 2007. There's gems after 2007 but gaming started getting depressing around that time, but so did life in general. I'm also older and when Minecraft came out I was already out of high school and the game never really did impress me very much back then (although I've grown to like it more recently), so I do think childhood nostalgia plays a big factor in when we decide gaming started to suck. For example, some of my favorite memories of playing games was couch gaming with my friends and family, which is something you haven't really had since the early 2010s. This is just a period marked by loneliness because of the internet and smart devices and I can't say I'm a fan.

Personally I think I lost interest in modern games because they're less "jump in and play" and require emotional investment on top of requiring you to build skill trees, level up, etc in massive open worlds which requires a lot of energy on my end. I miss just getting home, popping in some obscure title and immediately jumping into that upbeat atmosphere, games in the late 90s to mid 2000s were the perfect synthesize of arcadey jump in and play, but with a narrative that never took itself too seriously. Gaming in general didn't feel like it took itself too seriously until about the end of the 2000s and beginning of the 2010s

  5. I always play old or old like games

  6. For me i don't need long hours games and real graphics. Just fun to play and good to look at and have best sound or voice.

    😁😊

  7. To be honest in my case I'm getting old, I can't play call of duty without getting dizzy 🥴, I rather play slow motion games and with all the grinding you have to do I can't afford the time way to busy for that , my free time is 1hr in a weekend everything else is wife, kids, my family, and my job.

  8. i really don't think i have lost interest in gaming there are some issues due to which I can't enjoy which i can state

    • poor hardware, playing games at 800×600 640×480 at 30 fps with poor graphics will it not ruin the experience?

    •no friends

  9. I realized that it's not I'm getting older, but I'm getting lonelier years by years. It's just not fun playing everything all alone, what you need is to have someone to play with you.

  10. Hope everyone has a blessed year 😊 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

  11. They need to take notes from ps2 days even big franchises from that era that still go on today have really lakes in ideas of what fun is. Especially EA BIG

  12. This was fucking fire and brought about a new perspective for me. good shit!!!!

  13. I mostly agree, although you did leave out many of the legitimate negative aspects of modern games, such as too many bugs at release, bad or cringey writing, padding for gameplay time, or microtransactions. There’s many more but those are the big ones. Sure, companies may not be able to innovate as easily, but that doesn’t excuse that craptastic writing we see in some of these games, or the ridiculous padding we see in Blizzard games to extend gameplay time. Starfield also was guilty of lame, boring writing & game design (every temple mini-game the EXACT same, all 24 of them). But great video!

  14. I also think that we get a dopamine easier nowadays compared to before (with all the electronics and easy access to information and entertainment)that we get bored easier even when engaged in activities like gaming which is supposed to be fun. I’ve t done something called a dopamine fast a couple of times which included replacing gaming with other wholesome activities like going to the gym or reading a book and have found myself enjoying playing games again

  15. This will probably get lost in the comments but:

Anthem 2 needs to be in the works

Yes I know the game had doodoo story and no content, but the gameplay was (like this video said) something that wasn't done before. If EA didnt give up on it, I'd most likely be playing that right now tbh.

  16. I just play through my favorite small handful of games story mode but dont care beyond that. Rather be doing something else 9/10 times. When I was a kid I couldnt hunt, fish, hike, go on trips, even go to the gym or read any book I want. Take a ransom class get a random certification. Etc. Now the whole world is at my fingertips so the need to live vicariously through a game isnt really a need.

  17. This is the most American video I've ever seen

  18. Maybe people should find another past time instead of video games. That’s why it is so boring.

  19. I blame TWITCH.. TWITCH AND STREAMING HAS TURN IT INTO A MONEY PIT.

  20. Red Dead, Minecraft, GTA, all these classic games were and still are the goats of gaming

  21. I played GTA San Andreas 3 times and I believe I can play it again and still have more fun than cyberpunk. Graphics are the most unimportant part of games.

  22. The thing that has changed is people are hooked on ticktoc and these short dopamine hits that our span has shrunk and we cant keep entertained with the game we are playing

  23. As someone with a gaming rig with the specs equal to a toaster I can't even play the new releases.

I got tired of gaming because none of my friends game anymore. Minecraft was amazing because we played it with friends and made a lot of great memories. That's why in my bubble Among Us was such a huge success. Its something everybody could play, even people without a PC.

Modern games like Cyberpunk 2077 are cool and all and a novelty to all who can afford them, but where are the new games you can play with your friends? I cant even play CS2 because my PC is too weak. I can't afford the 550€ upgrade and neither could my friends.

Its why I love old classics.

  24. It's the half ass development for me. games fully built but locked by "DLC" paywalls. theres no love being poured into games anymore. games arent made by gamers they are made by greedy corporations who just want money. and its partly the consumers fault aswell since we keep buying the shit.

  25. Sorry, but games from 2016 to present are not old

  26. Actually your wrong. Ping didn't revolutionize battle royal. Minecraft didn't revolutionize sandbox games. They existed before people just didn't want to play those types. The real reason gaming isn't fun anymore is simple. Games don't care about immersion, story or setting anymore. It's all shoot this grab that. Go look at hangers from 1995 to 2005. Nothing worse that a clicker bait video for money. You got 1 thing right in this video. Gaming isn't fun because people try to make a living of it. When you combine income and entertainment you lose the magic. Ask YouTubers, movie stars and social media influencers. It is their job. Not a fun hobby

  27. There literally are no games coming out anymore. You had a AAA game coming out every two weeks and they all had lengthy single player campaigns

  28. I’m 33. I will never forget my first introduction to the world of video games – 1995, 5 years old. Wasn’t even Christmas, and a box came in the mail from my uncle (moms brother). Super Nintendo with Donkey Kong Country. I have two younger brothers, and over the years, we became dedicated gamers. It was the SNES, then N64, Xbox, PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One X, Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox Series X. THOUSANDS of games played…. Sadly, I cant think of anything released in the past ten years that gives me anything close to the same experience games offered back in the day.

  30. Gaming sucks now because it's main focus and only goal is to extract as much money from you as possible. Providing gamers good games is a distant second. Hell making a good game today isn't even a requirement most of the time. As long as they can nickle and dime you to death in a cash shop, that's all that matters… And that is why gaming will forever suck, it has no soul, it's all greed.

  32. Another reason that games don’t feel the same is because we have been playing the same games and because of that. We grow tired of the game. But because we have so much nostalgia for the game, we keep playing the game. Take Minecraft for example. People say that game does not feel that same because they have been playing it since they were 8. What I’m trying to say is that we restrict ourselves to game and are to afraid to try something new. So if I have to say anything before I go is that. Try out other games.

  35. Well for me ( problem is game getting too long 😔 i like long game at first cause i get more fun out of less money 💰 , but now i have money but not time and i need game worth my every second so😢)

  36. Great video, reminded me of undertale, it was mindblowing at its time

  37. There are alot of AAA games that come out every year but almost every game is just meh. CoD, battlefield, starfield, AC mirage, etc. None of them are good it feels like you play the same game you did 10 years ago and in addition theyre buggy messes with very bland content. In most cases games just steal ideas from one another and makes a big mash of unoriginal content. I mean a game like starfield for example feels like a fallout reskin and yet has less content than fallout new vegas which came out 13 years ago. I thought it was because I was getting older and have responsebilities but when Baldurs Gate 3 came out I couldnt stop playing it and I didnt even think I would like it.

  38. okay it's not because were waiting for a new innovative game… devs trying to reinvent the wheel in every genre is the problem! We need new titles in existing genres. Games that aren't trying to be some weird fps Mmorpg shooter combo or the 31st survival game or better yet "action based mmorpgs" dumb stuff like that. dev's are just stupid trying to be the next best innovative thing and cash grab. Dev's don't make games that are relevant a month out from launch because they are just a crappy cash grab. Dev's simply suck these days, these companys only care about money. We havent had a major hit title since like 2014… since that stupid tic toc fortnite generation rolled in.

  39. Cyber punk would of been better on release if people wouldn’t of pushed the devs to get it out

  40. Lmao battle royale games and micro transactions destroyed the industry.

Or even better Corporate board members pockets destroyed the industry.

  41. I actually don't like realistic graphics in games, they just look somewhat ugly and bland to me. I think well done stylized graphics are so much nicer. This is just my preference but it's part of why I gravitate toward indie and Nintendo titles. I'm more impressed by creativity than realistic detail.

  42. The bar is too high, the sun was in my eyes, my dog ate my homework. I’m not buying it.

Problems with modern gaming are the fee structure and prioritization of graphical fidelity OVER gameplay.

People are tired of loot boxes, day 1 DLC, and play to win mechanics. I don’t have a solution to account for the increase wage costs and stagnant price tags on games, but people DONT like the current structure and companies need to find a solution.

As for graphics, games with awesome textures and resolutions are phenomenal BUT the game itself needs to be sound. Just look at Fortnite. It’s not real world graphics that set it apart, it’s the mechanics that keep it interesting. Devs who think they NEED the highest graphical fidelity to compete against the market are lost and misguided. A game with PS3/Xbox 360 quality of graphics but expanded mechanics and solid gameplay will be seen as far superior than a high resolution turd. You can’t put lipstick on a pig and you can’t expect to make a profit of you make a game like Forespoken

  43. Wrong, a lot of people still actively play and enjoy older games, the issue is purely monetization and competitiveness + youtube = companies wanting in on the money. The loot shops are main priority and how to turn a profit. Most of the games we play today are extremely fleshed out and have a great story, all the games dying today, have major bugs, incomplete story, early access, and immediately offers pay to win options. I still play skyrim today, how couldn't you.

  44. Play different games for a change. 2023 has one of the best lineups in recent years. Dead Space Remake, TOTK, RE4R, FFXVI, Street Fighter 6, Armored Core VI, Pikmin 4 with Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros Wonder coming out very soon.

  45. bro , me and my friends even can't play those classics from 2010 to 2015 you mentioned . the best we could do is to get a PlayStation 2 . so our classics are maybe sega or nes games

  46. I'm pretty sure gaiming can still be fun it's just hard to know wich games we will or will not enjoy due to so many games being out there it's gonna be hard finding games that are enjoyable, i also think not every game is released recently is on the publics fault, yes there is probably some pressure but it's still the devs or Publishers final decision wheter to delay or relase the game look at how payday 3 released they could've preparer better and probably delayed the game while pushing out a "beta" to stress test their servers it was ultimatly their call i also think innovation is difficult because some people only play one sort of gernre they are more perceptive to not having as mutch fun i'm currently playing different games and honestly my libary is still a bit to many games, i also feel like probably having tobpicknup other hobbys to kill the time for a new or innovative game. I'm honestly just looking for games to play with my freinds even tho this seems morebimpossible due to them enjoying different aspects of certain games. Also certain companys like cod and ubisoft and others are just pushing the same concept out to mutch like there is so many assain's creed and call of duty titles it's clearly visible they want money over innovation the last few years have been pesterd withbso many broken game releases people are sick of that as well as over monotosation people want to play games not a fukin store that keeps shovin sh*t in your face i'm lookin at you destiny.

    Short version

People are just sick of certain things or bored of to mutch of the "same" stuff being released or over monotisation, the gaiming market has to many games it's hard to find enjoyable ones and Pressure from publishers, public suck but it is ultimatly the developers/publishers desicion.

  47. simply stop gaming for a couple of years and problem solved.
